Let food be thy medicine...

As we continue our Superfood series and explore the amazing Superfoods Mother Nature has provided the idea that food really is our medicine shines even brighter.

Many of us have become more health conscious these days and often indulge in a bit of pill popping of the vitamin and mineral kind, including myself!
This is great and certainly beneficial but maybe, just maybe there is an even more powerful way to feed and nourish our bodies that is both natural and holistic, more in tune with the nature of our bodies facilitating an even greater shift toward vibrant health and vitality.

Incorporating Superfoods into our diets has the capacity to impact our whole body in a way that is unique to Superfoods. They are truly holistic in this sense given their unique nutrient profile, and the synergy in which these nutrients are present create for a powerfully synergistic and holistic effect on our bodies and crucially, on all levels too. Often these positive benefits are pretty quick to manifest because of how easy our body can absorb and utilise their nourishment. Superfoods feed and nurture your body in every sense.

The potential for food to be our medicine is fully realised when we are in the company of Superfoods. Most of us begin our supplementation with something like a multivitamin, but there are Superfoods that can provide just as many vitamins and minerals with the extra addition of enzymes and fatty acids and compounds to aid absorption, packing an even bigger nutrient punch than traditional supplements.

Given their natural nature your body will absorb far more from some Superfoods than from your standard multivitamin. What an amazing boost for your body and an exciting way for us to embrace the power of food and really EAT ourselves healthy!

Spirulina One Superfood that really fits this bill is Spirulina. Many of my clients and I are totally impressed with the positive effects of Spirulina and they are so wide ranging, for this reason this month’s Superfood under the spotlight is Spirulina and it’s easier to eat than you might think!
Eating well

This Month’s Superfood -
Let’s Go Green with the Protein Queen - Spirulina!

Spirulina is an algae and has a very distinctive dark green colour. It consists of an astounding array of nutrients including chlorophyll, protein, vitamins, minerals, EFA’s and a huge amount of anti oxidants. Spirulina contains as much iron as red meat and the amount of chlorophyll it contains makes it a powerful blood builder. When combined with something like coconut water, which is nearly identical to blood plasma, it literally acts like a natural blood transfusion. Spirulina is so rich with nutrition it is thought we could live on this alone for a significant amount of time.

Spirulina is the Protein Queen of the world. It is 65-71 percent pure protein, the highest concentration of protein found in any food! It is the best source of GLA, an anti inflammatory necessary for a healthy nervous system and extremely beneficial for balancing female hormones.

Spirulina Powder It has amazing anti ageing properties, has a huge anti oxidant profile and is a serious booster to the immune system.

It has an incredible array of vitamins like vitamin A, most of the B vitamins, Vitamins E and Vitamin K, which is generally very hard to get sufficient amounts of.

Spirulina is known for its importance in balancing brain chemistry, enhancing feelings of wellness and also making us stronger in times of stress by supporting our stress defence shield, this makes it very helpful for people with depression, stomach or digestive disorders due to the stress link and neurological disorders.
Smoothies

People taking Spirulina report feeling calmer, getting stressed and feeling exhausted far less often, it really does support your system, physically, emotionally and energetically.

In short, Spirulina is too good to miss out on. Buy this from the Organics Foods and Cafe in Dubai and simply add 1 teaspoon to your smoothies. Be careful, it is strong potent stuff so try just half a teaspoon first and build up to 1 heaped teaspoon. This is literally your multivitamin and far superior to your standard multivitamin with an incredible absorption rate; you really are supercharging your diet by eating your way through the nutrients of Spirulina.

Happy eating!
